What is Chiropractic?

When most people think of chiropractic, they think of backs, necks and cracking sounds!

But chiropractic is actually all about the nervous system—your body’s command centre.

Your brain controls everything via the spinal cord and nerves, sending messages that tell your body what to do. If something disrupts that communication, things start going wrong.

That’s where chiropractic comes in.

Research has shown that chiropractic adjustments can actually change the way your brain processes information.

This isn’t just about pain relief; it’s about improving the way your brain and body interact, helping you move better, feel better, and function at your best.

Why Pain Isn’t the Full Story

There’s the pain—when something flares up suddenly—but then there’s the underlying instability that causes it to keep coming back.

Most people have been to practitioners who focus on getting rid of the pain, but few look at why it keeps happening in the first place.

Pain is the symptom, not the problem.

Chiropractic looks at the cause—why your body isn’t adapting properly and why the same issue keeps cropping up.

The human body is wonderfully designed to heal and to be stable. It’s meant to handle life’s knocks—whether that’s hauling a suitcase, picking up a toddler or pulling a dog out of a fight—without breaking down.

If it’s not, something’s interfering with how your brain and body communicate, and that’s what we’re looking to fix.

Your Nervous System and Movement

Your spine isn’t just a stack of bones—it protects your spinal cord, which is essential for sending messages between your brain and body.

When movement in the spine is restricted (what chiropractors call a subluxation), it interferes with these messages.

Research has shown that spinal dysfunction can change the way your brain perceives movement and position, making it harder for your body to stabilise itself.

The result? Weakness, stiffness, recurring pain and poor movement patterns.

A chiropractic adjustment restores proper movement, helping your brain reconnect with your body.

It’s a bit like rebooting a glitchy computer—when everything is working properly, your body can start functioning the way it was designed to.

Why This Matters for Long-Term Health

Beyond pain relief, chiropractic care has been found to improve sensorimotor function—how your brain processes sensory input and controls movement.

This means better balance, coordination and overall body control.

Research suggests that regular chiropractic adjustments can even help with things like stress adaptation, improving resilience to life’s physical and mental challenges.

So, whether you’re dealing with back pain, headaches or just feeling like your body isn’t working as well as it should, chiropractic can help you get to the root of the issue rather than just patching up symptoms.

And if I don’t think I’m the right person to help, I’ll tell you—and make sure you find someone who is.
